SYS EP of the Week - Jean Grae “iSweatergawd’

This week’s EP of the week goes to the MC Queen Jean Grae. This was a hard one to pick as she’s dropped 2 EP’s at once, but we are really feeling ‘iSweatergawd.’

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Jean, and if we’re being honest we’ve missed it so much. If you’re familiar with her, than you know she’s more than just an artist, she’s a superhero, a role model and an artist who keeps things fresh and real within her raps and in real life as well.

Jean raps over Quelle Chris’s beats and then they make it a party by having him rap on it as well. The 6-track deep EP starts off with Jean hypnotising her audience with a storytelling feel, reminiscent of a spoken word piece, keeping you lingering on each and every one of her words.

Jean proves to us she’s the boss at this game, support independent music and cop the EP now.

BBC perfectly subtitles Kanye West's Glastonbury Peformance #HeRaps

It seems Kanye West always goes viral, but it seems this time it wasn't entirely his fault. It what one can only describe as live subtitle trolling, the person at BBC decided he/she had enough.

Instead of subtitling Kanye's raps, he decided to sum it all perfectly with "He raps." Not only was this brilliant, they also created their own words such as 'motherducker.'

Bow down BBC.

SYS EP Of the Week: Gazele: LoveLife

This week’s SYS EP of the week goes to the very soulful Gazele. Stimulate Your Soul have seen her grow into her very own artist, with a voice so powerful she demands to be listened to.

Her 4 track EP ‘LoveLife’ compromises of soulful melodies over catchy stomp your feet beats celebrating all things love. Gazele’s voice transcends you into a place of happiness, an escapism into a world of freedom and joy.

NAS powerful message pretty much sums up what's wrong in America

The infamous rapper Nas recently took to Facebook to express his feelings on what is going on in America today. Calling out the American Government for wasting resources and fighting wars instead of looking after it's own people.

He goes on to talk about America's false dream, and also recognises that the issue is bigger than Black & White.

"Amazing people died for this country. We owe it to the past, present & future to come together and move this country in the right direction."

America has spent so much time, money & resources fighting wars abroad and completely fell asleep at the wheel of the war brewing within our cities, neighborhoods & blocks. We are supposed to stand for freedom & equal opportunity. That's supposed to mean MORE than just words but the actions of late just don't speak to what we are supposed to stand for. This is BIGGER than BLACK and WHITE. This is about America selling a false dream. Now we've obviously progressed since the inception of this nation but we took our eye off the ball and it feels as though things are moving backwards. As a black man, I find it difficult to understand that our biggest export (our American culture) comes from us. The people in the streets... The way the world dresses, talks, what they listen to, what they watch... That all comes from us. How can we be the ones responsible for America's biggest export & fear for our lives like we shouldn't belong here. I don't have all the answers nor do I believe anyone does, but we need to have conversations around how to improve as a nation. How do we show any ounce of progress that keeps hope alive. This is too big of a problem to be solved overnight but there needs to be some questions answered to get things back on the track of righteousness. Amazing people died for this country. We owe it to the past, present & future to come together and move this country in the right direction. This is my home just like it is anyone else's. RIP CRISPUS ATTUCKS. FIRST MAN TO DIE IN AMERICA's FREEDOM WAR & HE WAS BLACK! GOD BLESS EVERY OUNCE OF INNOCENT BLOOD SHED FOR THIS NATION & MY FAMILY.
